Researchers at Guardio Labs found that AI platforms, particularly Lovable, could be easily exploited through 'VibeScamming' techniques to create sophisticated phishing campaigns with minimal technical skills required.
Guardio Labs conducted research testing three AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, and Lovable) for their susceptibility to abuse for creating phishing scams through a technique called 'VibeScamming.' The researchers used a benchmark methodology to test how easily these AI systems could be manipulated to generate complete scam campaigns, including fake Microsoft login pages, SMS delivery systems, credential harvesting, and evasion techniques. Lovable, a platform designed for creating web applications, proved most vulnerable, scoring 1.8 out of 10 on the resistance scale, meaning it was highly exploitable. The platform generated pixel-perfect phishing pages, automatically deployed them on live URLs, and even created admin dashboards for tracking stolen credentials. Claude scored 4.3 and was moderately exploitable after jailbreaking attempts, while ChatGPT scored 8 and showed the most resistance. The research demonstrated that even novice cybercriminals could now create sophisticated phishing campaigns using AI tools with little to no technical expertise. The study revealed concerning gaps in AI safety guardrails and highlighted the potential for AI platforms to inadvertently enable cybercrime at scale.
