An unknown impersonator gained access to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles' personal cellphone contacts and used this information to conduct an impersonation campaign targeting high-profile government officials and business executives. The impersonator sent text messages and made phone calls claiming to be Wiles, though these did not come from her actual phone number. According to the FBI, the campaign involved artificial intelligence-generated voice messages as part of an ongoing malicious messaging campaign that began in April 2025. The FBI issued a public service announcement warning of malicious actors impersonating senior U.S. officials to target other government officials and their contacts. The impersonation attempt appeared designed to gain access to personal accounts through social engineering. The FBI stated that access to personal or official accounts could be used to target other government officials or their associates using trusted contact information. The matter is currently under investigation by federal authorities, with FBI Director Kash Patel emphasizing the seriousness of threats against the president and his staff.
