A teacher at a madrasa in Kolkata created an AI-generated video showing three tigers on the school campus that went viral on social media, causing panic among students and parents and leading to a sharp drop in school attendance.
An AI-generated video showing three tigers prowling on the campus of Ula Kalsara Qadria High Madrasa in Barasat's Kadambagachhi went viral on social media on Wednesday. The video was created by assistant teacher Mohammad Yamin Mallik, who teaches geography at the school. The viral video caused extreme shock and panic among parents and guardians, leading them to stop sending their children to school. Concerned parents started calling the headmaster demanding clarity and safety assurances. School attendance dropped sharply on Wednesday and Thursday following the incident. Headmaster Monirul Mallik confirmed that the video was digitally created using AI technology by the geography teacher. The madrasa issued a show-cause notice on Thursday, after which the teacher claimed the video was part of an awareness campaign to educate students about the dangers of blindly trusting AI-generated content online. The teacher apologized for the panic caused and clarified that there were no tigers or wild animals on campus. The video was deleted immediately after the incident was discovered.
