Conservative social media users spread an AI-generated fake photo falsely showing Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, claiming Carney was implicated in Epstein's trafficking scandal.
In January 2025, an AI-generated image began circulating on social media platforms showing Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney allegedly lounging in a swimming pool with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The image first appeared when Justin Trudeau announced his resignation and launched the Liberal Party leadership race. Conservative Canadian X user @Franktmcveety posted the manipulated image on January 28, 2025, with text claiming 'Mark Carney and Jeffrey the pedo. He said he had nothing to do with him.' The post garnered 105,800 views and 2,400 likes. On March 10, Instagram page CanadaExpozedArmy posted the same image claiming Carney was 'the first Canadian Prime Minister with known Jeffrey Epstein connections,' receiving 3,600 likes. The image showed clear signs of digital manipulation, including an improbably curved woman's wrist in the background and Carney's misshaped hand. The closest actual connection between Carney and Epstein appears to be a 2013 photo of Carney standing next to Epstein's confidante Ghislaine Maxwell, who was later sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking.
