Virginia Candidate John Reid Reportedly Used AI-Generated Deepfake of Opponent Ghazala Hashmi in Simulated Political Debate

In the Virginia lieutenant governor race, Republican candidate John Reid, a conservative talk radio host, organized a 40-minute debate against an AI-generated version of his Democratic opponent, state Sen. Ghazala F. Hashmi, after she declined all his debate requests. The AI bot was trained on Hashmi's previous public statements on the debate topics and delivered responses in a robotic voice that loosely mimicked hers. Reid streamed the event to a few hundred people on his YouTube channel on Tuesday night.
