The image showed JD Vance in a white T-shirt with a stern expression sitting across from Usha Vance. Social media users shared the image with claims that it showed an authentic public argument between the couple. YouTuber Keith Edwards later confirmed to Snopes that he had created the image using the artificial intelligence platform ChatGPT as a thumbnail for an October 2025 video, describing it as 'fake.' The image spread amid existing rumors about marital problems between the Vances that had begun circulating in October 2025. AI detection platforms Sightengine and Image Whisperer identified the image as AI-generated with 97% probability and 'high confidence' respectively, though Hive flagged it as not likely AI-generated. Digital media authentication experts from GetReal Security found biometric anomalies suggesting the image may be AI-generated, noting that facial features did not match contemporaneous images of Vance. JD Vance himself appeared to acknowledge the image was fake in a December 9 X post, sarcastically commenting about the scenario depicted.
