A megachurch in the Philippines also reported deepfakes of its pastors. Beyond targeting specific individuals, AI-generated content featured generic pastors delivering unexpected sermons, with one TikTok video gaining over 11 million views. The scams exploited the trust congregants place in religious authority figures and leveraged the fact that many pastors legitimately solicit donations, making fraudulent requests harder to distinguish. TikTok removed the fake Schmitz accounts after being contacted by WIRED, citing impersonation policy violations.
