The image was timestamped 'OCT 14 '05' and shared by the 'CSI LA' Facebook page with captions suggesting long-standing ties between the two men. The image was created using Google's AI tools and detected as AI-generated with 'Very High' confidence by Google's SynthID detector. Visual irregularities included a bent wine glass stem and a spoon appearing to disappear into the table surface. The synthetic image emerged amid genuine leaked photos from December 2025 showing various Thai politicians with Mauerberger, whom the Whale Hunting newsletter accused of facilitating money laundering operations. Anutin had previously acknowledged 'casual' meetings with Mauerberger in 2014 but denied deeper connections. The Prime Minister publicly denied the synthetic photo's authenticity on February 7, stating it was clearly an AI-generated image and noting he would have looked much younger in 2005.
