A Facebook account used AI-generated video technology to create fake content impersonating Indonesian religious figure Ustaz Ujang Bustomi, falsely claiming he was distributing money through social media as part of a scam operation.
On November 20, 2025, a Facebook account named 'PT perusahaan uangtunai' posted a video featuring Ustaz Ujang Bustomi, an Indonesian religious figure, with text claiming he was distributing money ranging from 50 million to 5 billion rupiah within two hours to those who believed and trusted. The post received significant engagement with 12,500 likes, 7,100 comments, and 422 shares by November 21, 2025. Indonesian fact-checking organization Mafindo investigated the video using Hive Moderation AI detection tools and determined the video was AI-generated with 96.9% probability. Further investigation revealed that Ustaz Bustomi had previously denied such claims in a September 28, 2025 YouTube video, stating that any content claiming he distributed money through social media was fraudulent and that anyone using his name to request money transfers was conducting a scam. The fact-checkers classified this as fabricated content designed to deceive users into believing the religious figure was legitimately offering financial assistance through social media platforms.
