On May 20, 2025, a 16-year-old male student at Vähäjärvi School in Pirkkala, Finland, stabbed three female students aged under 15 with a bladed weapon. The attack occurred at 10:42 AM, and police apprehended the suspect within 12 minutes. The victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries to the neck, hand, and waist. Prior to the attack, the perpetrator sent a manifesto to the newspaper Iltalehti stating his intention to stab girls and seek notoriety through violence. The manifesto revealed he had planned the attack for six months and used ChatGPT to assist in the planning process. The document was structured as bullet points detailing his motivation to do something 'significant' and 'exciting' with the goal of receiving a 2-4 year prison sentence. He deliberately targeted female students because he considered them easier targets and found the idea of stabbing women more 'pleasant.' The court later found the boy guilty of three counts of attempted murder but deemed him not criminally responsible due to mental health issues, ordering involuntary psychiatric treatment. Police investigations revealed he had conducted hundreds of AI-assisted searches about stabbing anatomy, mass killings, and criminal procedures.
