AI Generated Voices Used to Dox Voice Actors

Online harassers used AI voice generation technology to create synthetic replicas of voice actors' voices, then had these fake voices read out the victims' home addresses along with racist and homophobic slurs. At least four voice actors who had worked on video games were targeted in this campaign, including Abbey, Zane (who worked on Fallout 4 mods), Tom (who worked on Poppy Playtime), and Michael. The fake audio clips were posted on Twitter, with one example showing a synthetic version of Abbey's voice saying 'Hello, this is Abbey speaking' before reading her home address and adding offensive slurs and violent content. The harassers falsely attributed some of the audio to ElevenLabs, an AI voice company, though ElevenLabs investigated and determined that while one Agent 47-style audio clip was made using their system, the doxxing clips targeting the voice actors were not created with their technology. Twitter removed some offending tweets and suspended related profiles, but failed to take down multiple tweets despite them violating Twitter's policy on publication of private information. The harassment campaign appeared to target voice actors who had publicly expressed concerns about AI voice technology potentially threatening their industry.
