At Issaquah High School in Washington, a male student took photos of several female classmates who attended a James Bond-themed homecoming dance and used AI apps to alter them into sexually explicit nude images. The AI-generated pornographic images were then circulated around the school. The incident was reported by parents to local news, and Issaquah Police confirmed they are investigating. The school district notified families of students confirmed to have been involved but some parents felt they were not informed promptly. This incident, along with similar cases across multiple states including Richmond Illinois, Beverly Hills and Laguna Beach California, has prompted legislative action. Washington State Senator Mark Mullet, whose daughter Caroline Mullet alerted him to the incident, worked with Representative Tina Orwall to pass legislation criminalizing the sharing of AI-generated sexually explicit depictions of real minors. The law was passed without opposition and signed by Governor Jay Inslee. At least two dozen states have introduced similar bills since early last year, with several states including South Dakota and Louisiana enacting measures. The apps used are described as 'nudification' apps designed to automatically strip clothed photos of real girls and women.
