AI-generated deepfake videos featuring Jewish celebrities including Scarlett Johansson were created without consent to criticize Kanye West's antisemitic remarks, prompting concerns about AI misuse and calls for legislation.
In February 2025, Israeli digital marketers Guy Bar and Ori Bejerano from creative agency Gitam BBDO created an AI-generated deepfake video featuring over a dozen Jewish celebrities including Scarlett Johansson, Drake, Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Spielberg, Adam Sandler, and others. The video showed these celebrities wearing white T-shirts with a Star of David inside a hand making a middle finger gesture with 'Kanye' written below, set to the Jewish folk song 'Hava Nagila.' The video was created in response to Kanye West's recent antisemitic tirade on X where he called himself a 'Nazi' and praised Hitler, followed by his Super Bowl advertisement directing viewers to his website selling swastika T-shirts. The deepfake video went viral on social media with the message 'Enough is Enough' and 'Join the Fight Against Antisemitism.' None of the celebrities depicted gave permission for their likenesses to be used. Scarlett Johansson was the first to respond publicly, condemning the 'misuse of AI' regardless of its messaging and calling for urgent US legislation to limit AI use. She stated that 'the potential for hate speech multiplied by AI is a far greater threat' and urged the government to prioritize AI regulation as a 'bipartisan issue that enormously affects the immediate future of humanity at large.' The video was labeled on Instagram as content 'digitally created or altered with AI to seem real.'
