Victims were selected through algorithms that matched specific profile criteria and were then targeted with these AI-generated ads on websites and social networks. The scam operated in multiple phases, beginning with romance baiting or posing as financial advisors, showing victims fake investment returns on fraudulent platforms, then claiming investments were blocked and requiring large payments for recovery. In the final phase, scammers posed as Europol agents or UK lawyers claiming funds had been recovered but required tax payments. The operation defrauded 19 million Euros from 208 victims worldwide over approximately two years. Police seized 100,000 Euros, mobile phones, computers, hard drives, firearms, and documents. The criminals created multiple shell companies to launder proceeds and the group leader used over 50 distinct aliases.
