In 2025, scammers used AI deepfake technology to create fraudulent promotional videos by manipulating the faces and voices of prominent Thai figures. The deepfake content featured Dolyana Bunnag, a Thai PBS World news anchor, appearing to interview Anne Jakrajutatip, CEO of Miss Universe, about investment opportunities. The fake videos, distributed in English through Facebook advertising, claimed viewers could invest 8,000 baht and receive returns of hundreds of thousands of baht through a government-endorsed financial platform. The fraudulent content received 12,000 views before being detected. Thai PBS Verify investigated and confirmed the videos were created using AI deepfake technology by comparing them to original source materials from legitimate news broadcasts. The original footage of Dolyana Bunnag was taken from a Thai PBS World Tonight broadcast from June 24, 2025, while Anne Jakrajutatip's footage came from a February 11, 2023 international media interview. AI experts confirmed the videos showed telltale signs of deepfake manipulation, including misaligned lip movements and blurred facial features. This incident represents the third or fourth time Dolyana Bunnag has been targeted by deepfake scammers within a single year, with each iteration becoming increasingly sophisticated and realistic.
